I first started CrossFit back in July 2007 during a deployment overseas. Upon returning from the deployment I joined the local CrossFit Box and quickly realized how great this program was. I was hooked completely by the community and the friends/family whose bond always seemed to become stronger as time went on. I started helping out around the gym, shadowing some classes, and learning the art of programming. I knew one day I would have my own affiliate, I just wasn't sure when.

I am finally realizing that dream of my own affiliate with CrossFit Merit. From competing in the 2010 "Dirty South" Southeast Regional of the CrossFit Games, to becoming a Level 1 Trainer, I have passed through many great affiliates where I coached and trained building strong friendships along the way. I would have never made it this far had it not been for the opportunities presented to me in the last 8 years through CrossFit and its community. We are excited to continue to grow the already great community of CrossFitters here in Calvert County, MD.

I started CrossFit in February of 2013 looking to get back into shape after a few years of being pretty sedentary. I have always picked up new sports and skills rather quickly, but CrossFit was so humbling and addicting all at the same time.

CrossFit changed my life and gave me the opportunity to meet and help so many people get fit and live a healthier lifestyle.

I'm very lucky to be able to share my passion with all of you as an owner and coach at CrossFit Merit. I want to make this one of, if not the most, fun hour(s) of your day. I hope you enjoy the challenge, the community and the pursuit of getting a little bit better everyday. I alway say, "It doesn't matter how bad my day has been. The second I walk into the box everything is washed away by the amazing people I get to coach and train."

I first tried CrossFit when my best friend mentioned something about a competitive workout that he wanted to try with me. The movements were foreign and even a little awkward, but once it was done, it felt like the best workout I had ever done. He told me that it was a CrossFit workout, so I had to do some research.

After learning more about CrossFit, I realized that I had to become a part of this community. Upon joining the local CrossFit box in April 2014, I found a great passion for the sport almost instantaneously. I decided to expand my knowledge and become a CrossFit trainer.

I'm excited to be a part of this incredibly passionate group of coaches. My goal is to help create a one-of-a-kind environment that will inspire people to make healthy lifestyle changes and enjoy the life-long benefits that CrossFit has to offer.

I began CrossFit in December of 2014. I had been working out at a regular gym for about 4 years which I really enjoyed, but it lacked the competitive aspect I missed from playing sports growing up.

After seeing a rebroadcast of the CrossFit Games that year I thought it looked pretty fun, so I gave it a try. I immediately signed up for the CrossFit Open the following February hoping to get an idea of how I stacked up against everyone else in the world. It was very humbling to see how much there was to learn and get better at, but I knew at that point CrossFit was going to be something I would be a part of for the long haul.

The community is something that sets CrossFit apart from anything else. I am glad to be a part of the CrossFit Merit community, as well as a member of the coaching staff.

I was a huge tomboy growing up, always participating in any form of physical activity to stay active and have fun. As I got older, I lost interest in some sports as I can get bored easily and lose interest in routine formed activities.

In the summer of 2014 I unwillingly walked into my first CrossFit class feeling incredibly insecure and intimidated that I wouldn't be strong enough, which I think are most people's initial thoughts of "I need to get in shape before starting."

CrossFit is the first sport that has sparked and kept my interest. It is about variance, hard work, and fun while doing it with a group of people and coaches who become more of a family than just familiar faces you see at the gym.

Now I find myself looking forward to getting in the box everyday; it is my happy place and the best form of therapy. CrossFit has bettered me as a person, boosting my work ethic, confidence, and happiness.

I'm excited and honored to be a part of such an inspiring group of people here at CrossFit Merit.

I was first exposed to CrossFit while enlisted in the Air Force, after watching videos on CrossFit I was hooked. Having come from a background in running, swimming, weightlifting and wrestling, I naturally loved the variation. After having done my first official workout "The Murph" I was exhausted, but I knew I had to make this a big part of my life.

Now that I have the chance to coach others I have found a whole new way to enjoy CrossFit. Being able to see people progress and succeed, not only in the box but in life, is very rewarding. Flippin' happy to be a part of Merit and look forward to the next PR.

After 10 years in the Air Force as a trainer, I started my own business as an animal trainer. That has much more to do with teaching people than you’d think! I had tried traditional training, for both humans and dogs, but it never felt right. Waiting for mistakes to happen and then correcting them just seemed like an injustice to the learner. So I dedicated my studies to positive reinforcement, behavior modification and how to better achieve results without having to punish.

At the same time, my family was growing and I became a mom to two awesome kiddos. Every parent knows: having kids means losing a bit of yourself physically. I was tired all the time, out of shape, and completely unfamiliar with my new mom body. So I promised myself: I’d check out CrossFit and try to lose some weight.

I was quickly hooked and about six months in, I knew I wanted to become a CrossFit coach - it combined everything for which I am passionate: the same positive reinforcement from my career as an animal (and person!) trainer, the camaraderie and strong community I loved from my time on active duty, and fitness that is constantly varied and never stale.

As a CrossFit Kids Coach, my goals are simple: I want kids to know they can have fun and be strong. I want little girls to know they can absolutely compete alongside the boys and I want little boys to know strong girls as their peers. I believe in the community of CrossFit and the effect that can have on our younger generations. Here, they can learn not only about physical fitness but other valuable life skills and it’s my job to foster an environment in which they feel safe to do so.

Also, let’s be honest: I’m secretly wishing the kids thank me on camera when they win the 2028 CrossFit Games. ;)

I began CrossFit in January 2013 as a way to have some fun and get fit in the process. I had no idea that I would be gaining so much more than just a training program. After moving back to Calvert County from college I had faced difficulty in forming meaningful friendships. The box quickly became a place where I was able to gain not only friendships, but I became part of a community.

It was not long before I was also noticing the physical and mental benefits from training at the box, and the typical anxieties I had faced with fitness before began to disappear. I was taking ownership of my fitness, and nobody had to force me to do it. I was focusing on developing strength and holding myself accountable for learning the skills necessary to improve. I didn't worry about how others perceived my fitness anymore, and most importantly (to me) I no longer cared about the numbers on the dreaded scale.

I am proud of the person and the athlete CrossFit has helped me become. I am stronger than ever before, inside and out. This strength has translated to all parts of my life, and for that I am thankful. I am eager to help begin CrossFit Merit as a way to bring other people the same successes I have experienced from this program, and I am honored to be a part of the journey.

I started CrossFit in 2016 after moving to Calvert County from San Diego. The move was a huge culture shock and I didn't deal with it very well emotionally. I sank pretty deep into a depression and knew I needed to get out of the house, meet some people, and do something active. So I scheduled a trial class at CrossFit Merit. Before the class was even over, I knew I had found my new home away from home.

CrossFit has been integral in my ability to take care of both my physical and mental health. It impacted my life so much that I decided to become a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and also a CrossFit Kids Trainer. My ultimate goal is to create a program to train the neurodiverse populations and other individuals with various special needs.

I am grateful to the coaches and members at Merit that sparked this passion within me. This community has touched my heart in ways I never thought possible. I'm excited to be able to share this experience with each person who walks through our doors.
