Coach of Merit: Mark Long

One of CrossFit Merit’s founding members, Coach Mark Long, brings his trademark intense-yet-humble personality to every class. As an Air Force veteran, he has been committed to fitness and self-improvement for decades. But it’s his passion to help others succeed that makes him such a valued member of the Merit Team. 

Let’s just jump right in: what is it you like most about CrossFit Merit?

Easy! Its members!! 

What are your coaching strengths? What do you bring to the table?

My passion to help others succeed. I also enjoy all the movements, including ones that challenge me. This means I’m constantly researching and finding new and better ways to teach movements to increase understanding amongst my clients.

What are you currently working on in your fitness journey?

Preventing injury and progressing technique, trying to be as efficient as possible and as creative as I can during social distancing. #socialdistancing2020

How do you find motivation on the days you “just can’t”?

My wife, Solange. I see her workout on her long days and it motivates me to ‘show up’. 

If you were stranded on a deserted island, what swim stroke would you use to find safety?

Combat side stroke. Good in rough seas and I don't need goggles.
